Teacher: Ms. Nancie Bauer
Kinetics (Where mind meets body)
Kids Into Nutrition & Exercise To Improve Cardiovascular Stamina!
A fresh and energetic curriculum with a focus on healthy life-styles for kids and their families.
Our mission statement: Kinetics is designed to include and enhance current content and principles of the paradigm to advance and achieve optimum outcomes for the learner. This program respects and fortifies the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development of the child's physical and academic activities.
All fifth grade student's in Holt are placed into Kinetics for one full year. This year at Hope, the fifth grade student's will also rotate with their home base to Kinetics, Art, and Music.
The sixth grade student's at Washington Woods will be placed into their selected classes which are Kinetics, Dance, Art, Music. Remember that at both schools, band student's attend band every day.
Hope welcomes Mr. Barrix this year. He will be teaching our 6th grade Kinetics classes.
Ms. Bauer will be teaching fifth grade Kinetics at Hope and fifth and sixth at Woods.
Wednesday Workshop: Every student must come to class prepared to take notes and participate in active discussion on such topics as Heart Health, Nutrition, Wellness and Anatomy and Kinesiology. There is a test at the end of the semester. Every student must keep a spiral notebook and pencil in their locker and come prepared on Wednesdays to take notes.
*If a student does not pass this test, they will need to re-take it until they do pass. EVERY student in Kinetics will be successful. I will post test material 2 weeks prior to testing.
Class requirements: All student's must change into their gym clothes and tennis shoes before class. When a student forgets to dress for whatever reason, they must write sentences to take home as a reminder to bring their clothes the next time. This is an effort to get the student to be more responsible for his/her actions through consequences and rewards.
Kin-Club - Woods
Information about this after school club will be sent home in late September. Check back then.
S.T.O.P: Soar To Optimum Potential is a new program which will start in October at Washington Woods for any student in fifth or sixth grade who is concerned about their weight or eating habits. This is a careful and in depth examination of why we are over-weight and what we can do to fix it now before it follows us into our high school and adult life. This group meets on Fridays after school until 4:30. It is a six week commitment and if you are interested, please see Ms. Bauer in person. It is a close, confidential, safe environment.
Kinetics lessons include.... Boot Camp, Jump Rope, Volleyball, Track, Workshop, Fitness workouts, fitness testing, soccer, tumbling, and cooperative games.
DANCE classes: Dance is offered only to sixth graders at Woods due to the scheduling differences between Hope and Woods. All dancers must come prepared to learn, respect, and perform at the end of the year.
If you ever have a concern, a complaint or a question regarding your child's Kinetics class, please call me or come see me during the day. We can resolve most problems together. I need parental support to be able to get the most from your child. I want and expect all children to succeed and will not allow them to quit, get out of anything, or fail.
Please be a voice for health by supporting our program on every level. It is important to promote and require our kids to exercise every day.
I hope you are rested up from a great summer vacation and are ready to get moving again!
